It's not the dark we're afraid of, it's what we think
might be lurking in it that frightens us.

Spooktacular Sounds

I was looking for Halloween music and sound effects today and came across this great outfit, Departed Studios. Their tagline is hilarious; the world has gone to Hell in a handbasket, and we wrote the soundtrack........

Their latest cd, Teeming, is available from the site and on iTunes. I went looking for it on the latter specifically so I could get the Haunted Cemetery track.

Zombify Yourself!

...... and everyone else you know! In conjunction with the upcoming Zombieland movie, you can zombify family and friends in photos! Great fun for Halloween.

Zombify Yourself

A Spooky Gift!

I was fortunate enough to win SEHA's August giveaway and the prize arrived today! Don't mind my crappy photography. I seriously need a new digicam. There's a much better picture of the stretchy tile bracelet here: Society of Eclectic Halloween Artists. Unfortunately, I'm not sure of the name of the artist who made the bracelet. I'll find out and post a link asap.

Edit: I've since found out Cindy Tevis is the artist responsible for the bracelet. Please stop by Cindy's blog to see more of her wonderful handiwork! Halloween Spirit

SEHA have regular giveaways with prizes contributed by member artists, so get on over. Become a follower and perhaps do a spot of spooky shopping while you're at it!

Thanks again to Cindy Tevis at SEHA for sending my package. You'll find Cindy's Etsy shop here; Halloween Spirit

Now, d'you think it's too early to start wearing my bracelet?

Happy Autumn!

A touch of gold in the Autumn night
I walked abroad,
And saw the ruddy Moon lean over a hedge
Like a red-faced farmer.

–T. E. Hulme (1883–1917)

September 22—Autumnal Equinox

The autumnal equinox is defined as the point at which the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator from north to south. The word equinox means “equal night,” when night and day are of the same duration.

In Europe, the conclusion of the harvest each autumn was once marked by festivals of fun, feasting, and thanksgiving known as “Harvest Home.” It was also a time to hold elections, pay workers, and collect rents. These festivals usually took place around the time of the autumnal equinox.

Fingerprint Tree

Thanks to Jessica, owner of Baubles and Broomsticks, for this inventive Fall craft idea. I remarked on her blog that it was something my own children would have enjoyed when they were still kids!

September!

There are flowers enough
in the summertime,
More flowers than I can remember

But none with the purple, gold, and red
That dyes the flowers of September!

Back to school, back to work and a new Season arriving with the Autumnal Equinox on the 22nd of September. In medieval Europe, harvest festivals started later this month and the greatest of them was Michaelmas, on the 29th. Everyone feasted on Michaelmas goose, oatcakes, barley cakes, and new wine. For all you skywatchers, look for the rising Full Moon on the 4th.

Weather lore: Fair on September first, fair for the month.

Happy September!
