July 1st, Canada Day, celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867 enactment of the British North America Act of 1867, which united Canada as a single country of four provinces; Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec.
It's grown a lot since then, adding more provinces from both east and west, along with the northern territories of the Yukon and what is now known as Nunavut. Right across the country there's fireworks, bbqs and everyone just generally goes slightly nuts for 24 hours. It's maple leaves as far as the eye can see! And it doesn't matter if you aren't Canadian; c'mon down and enjoy! Eh!
To all Canadians everywhere, whether at home or abroad like me, have a safe and fun holiday!
